The State of Bahrain is an archipelago comprising 33 low-lying islands, with a total area of 690 square km. It is located in the western area of the Persian Gulf, with Saudi Arabia to the west and Qatar to the southeast. The main island, Bahrain, represents 85 per cent of the total area, and is the center of most activity; it has the capital city (Manama), the primary ports(Mina Salman and Khalifa Bin Salman), oil fields and the oil refinery.
The international airport, elevation 7 feet (2.1 m), is on a manmade island just off the northeast end of Bahrain and is connected with the capital of Manama by a causeway.
The Mina Salman port facility is on the northeast coast and is situated on the periphery of the Khawr Al Qulayah Bay. Mina Salman is located approximately 1 mile southeast of the Naval Support Activity (NSA).
